In early December 2017, pregnant women and young mothers gathered in Ljubuški, Bosnia and Herzegovina, to attend the first breastfeeding education entitled “Support for Breastfeeding“ sponsored by Weleda the market leader for organic certified cosmetic products.
Pediatrician dr. Mediha Jakic talked about the importance of breastfeeding for the development of the child, the quality of breast milk, the most common difficulties mothers have to deal with while breastfeeding, and how to overcome challenges that arise when breastfeeding.
Nursing counselor from the University Clinical Hospital in Mostar, Rusmira Arapović, with her daily work with pregnant women, is well introduced with the situations in reality and is in constant contact with pregnant women and young mothers.
Her motto is to increase the breastfeeding rate, and extend breastfeeding time for mothers in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The WHO advises breastfeeding for at least 6 months, but underlines that breastfeeding is optimal for over a year or more (with the introduction of various foods).
